Tom Hanks Sci-fi Filming in New Mexico

Gossip: The long speculated sci-fi drama Bios, starring Tom Hanks as the last man on earth, is rumored to have quietly begun filming in Albuquerque late last month.

Current Facts: Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik heads the project co-starring Caleb Landry Jones (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Get Out) and Samira Wiley (Orange is the New Black, The Handmaids Tale).

Shortly after the Amblin Entertainment acquisition of the film in 2017, company co-founder Steven Spielberg told The HR, “Bios is an original, emotionally stirring tale that at its core is very much an Amblin movie. I can think of no one more perfect to embody this story about the meaning of being human than Tom Hanks.”

In the script, written by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell, Jones is cast as a robot built by an ailing Hanks who strives to create a human-like caretaker for his dog. Wiley teams up with the duo in their travels and travails in achieving something resembling a compassionate relationship between bot and beloved canine.

Superstar Tom Hanks has an interesting habit of documenting stray gloves, socks, shoes and the occasional couch on his Twitter feed. Yesterday’s glove could certainly be that of a New Mexico film set.

Die hard New Mexico film industry fans may recognize Jones from other local productions such as Breaking Bad, No Country For Old Men and War on Everyone.

Bios is scheduled for release in October of next year.
